I’ve had the privilege of completing a couple of animated renderings since adding this to my rendering offerings after Christmas. Today, I’d like to explore a little bit about my process with animation renderings and how it’s different from typical renderings.
First before we start digging in, go ahead and watch this quick video of an animation I completed.
Who needs a rendering?
Whether you are an Interior Designer, Architect, or Contractor, animation visualization can help you truly bring your design to life. The following is different reasons why designers have used rendering services:
1. Visualize the Project
The most obvious reason you would want an animated rendering or any rendering would be to visualize your design as I eluted earlier. Often, no matter how much detail you go into describing the design to your client, some need an image to picture what the end goal will be.
2. Market Your Design Services
If you are just starting out and you don’t have any clients, that is okay! You can still market amazing 3D content. If you have a concept design, marketing to your ideal client is a must. Using 3D renderings is a great way to complete your offerings. Having an animated rendering will enhance the customer experience and set you apart. The more interactive your presentation the more powerful it will be.
3. Client Trust
No more having to consistently reassure your client that you understand their needs. With renderings, you can one time assure them. Allowing the power of “seeing is believing” before the design is actually finished.
What are Animated Renderings?
Interior renderings are 3D images from the perspective of a building’s interior. These renderings are photorealistic ways to get a look at your design, even virtually.
Unlike our typical renderings, Animated Renderings actually move. You’ll see moving trees, flickering lights, and even blazing fire. These renderings can even be seen with VR glasses*. The rendering artist can almost create an effect as if you are there standing in your new room.
Animated vs. Still
What factors should you consider when deciding if you want an animated render or a still render?
Budget
Keep budget in mind. The animated renders do truthfully take rendering artists several hours longer than still renders. So ask yourself two questions, Does my client’s budget or project fit an animated rendering? Will my client see the value in an animated rendering? If the answer is yes to either of those, the good chance is you have found the right client for the job.
Design
There are some rooms/environments the look better as an animation than others. For instance, I prefer to do exteriors as animations. See the example below of one we did for Jeanette Van Wicklen of VAN WICKLEN DESIGN & CO.
Elements
Decide what elements if any you would like to be animated. If you can’t think of any that are for sure need to be animated then I would go for a still render.

If you have consider all these options and still would like to possibly add animation to your service offerings. Go for it! You can always add it as an add on to your packages. I’ll be happy to assist if you have any questions.
