Holiday Decor Grandmillennial Style with Jeanette Van Wicklen | Christmas Rendered 2021 | Guest Post

Hi everyone! It’s Jeanette Van Wicklen of Van Wicklen Design & Co.. I’ve worked with Lauren a lot on my Edesign projects and today she’s asked me to share some of my holiday stylings with you! Let me first start by saying that my holiday decor, really isn’t anything over the top. However, I hope something I’ve created will inspire you in your own holiday decor. I’ve been an Interior Designer for 22 years and lately, I prefer a more simplified Christmas. I really love to have lots of greenery (preferably boxwoods) and pretty white lights as the base. I usually host Thanksgiving, so I like to start decorating just before so that my guests start to feel the Christmas spirit even in November. I start out small and later layer and add more things in the coming weeks such as ornaments, stockings, the Nativity and gifts wrapped. Each year, my color direction will usually change because of the inspiration I find on other Instagram posts or things I see in the stores.

Dining Room

Lately, the Grandmillenial style has captured my heart again. Therefore, I started with my Dining Room, by adding more chinoiserie, particularly the large lampshade that set the tone.

The lampshade was custom-made by Cruel Mountain Designs

The Schumacher fabric is a classic called Chiang Mai Dragon and comes in a couple of colorways. I’ve always loved it and the colors are gorgeous, allowing you to pull various colors into the room. I went through a neutral decor phase for a while and I’m slowly adding these colors back into my home! My antique chandelier previously had black lampshades. I loved them but the lighting in the room seemed too dark most times. This year, I changed it up by ordering these beautiful chandelier shades from Cruel Mountain Designs also (see below images).

They’re great because they add a fun pop of color but don’t make the room too dark. I always put dimmer switches on all chandeliers though to create a relaxed mood at the table. I’ve collected a mix of the blue and white pieces for years but you can find similar ones in my Amazon store. I added various bows on the vases with Christmas greenery. I also added the cutest boxwood wreaths on my chairs and this beautiful teal ribbon in a lot of places.

I’m hoping to find some great small-scale dining chairs, to custom upholster this year, for my dining table (which I scored on Facebook Marketplace). Until then I used 4 shabby chic white ones from our outdoor farmhouse table and 4 metal white bistro chairs from our Breakfast Room table. My table is 60″ round and if you use small-scale chairs, then it allows 8 guests to sit at the table.

I also had the multi-talented ladies at Feather Fluff & Flings custom create the bows on the mirror, as well as the pencil tree in the Dining Room. I told them the colors I wanted and they sent me these beautiful velvet ribbons! I kept my tablescape simple this year with a beautiful chinoiserie bowl I found years ago at the Dallas Market. I added green moss and fresh oranges. My corner antique china cabinet is festive with a simple boxwood garland and a small boxwood wreath hanging from the beautiful teal ribbon. I kept the interior of the china cabinet simplified with all collected silver pieces.

Living Room

Over in my Living Room, I added a mirrored tray with a few of my favorite things: 1) a beautiful turquoise lacquered box with the geode detail. Gifted to me by my sisters and it holds old vintage love letters from my Father to my Mother. 2) Vintage colorful ornaments in a silver bowl (old wedding gift) and a small decorative Christmas tree.

Exterior

From the Dining Area, it inspired me to add some blue and white chinoiserie touch to the exterior. I had this beautiful sash custom made for my faux green wreath and added fairy lights to the wreath and a simple magnolia leaf and fir garland around the door. I also ordered this cute doormat in colors that coordinated. Further out my front porch, I added these beautiful faux swags with these bells and this burlap wired ribbon that holds up beautifully out in the elements.

Last but not least! The Breakfast Room

Before I leave you today, hopefully, inspired, I also wanted to share my simple Breakfast Room touches. Remember this is the table that belongs to the white bistro chairs. In this pic, it was mainly set up for Thanksgiving but I thought you’d enjoy the other decor touches. Very simple, but I added this sweet ribbon onto my antique breadboard to add some teal into this room. I also hung a boxwood wreath with a gorgeous bright green velvet ribbon. The wreath conceals the controller of the pretty copper fairy lights under the ribbon.
