Genius Interior Design Tips From The Experts

It's hard not to pick up some clever tips when you have been in the interior design industry for a while, living and breathing interiors. The good news is that I'm more than happy to share some of the vast repository of knowledge I have gained. You can even find four of my best expert interior design tips to use in your home, below. Happy designing!

Beauty and practicality can coexist

Most people think interior design is all about making a home look pretty. Aesthetics are always important of course, but there’s more to it than that. Indeed, the function of a space is something that we consider very carefully when designing and decorating it. After all, it doesn't matter how stunningly beautiful a space is if it's not fit for purpose.

This point leads us to the first recommendation, and it's not to forget that beauty and practicality can happily co-exist. So remember to consider the function of the room when designing it, and don’t forget to mix in a little beauty even in the most functional of spaces.

There are some things you should never DIY

The next tip from the experts is that no matter how confident you are in your own abilities there are just some interior design things you should never attempt yourself. Making alterations to the electrical wiring or plumbing in a space are two of the things better left to the experts. Indeed, they can not only be tricky but fatal if done wrong.

Another job that's best to get experts to do is residential painting, whether it's interior or exterior. Of course, you can put on your overalls, and get out your paintbrush, but the finish you are left with is very unlikely to be as precise and clean as the one a professional house painter will leave you with. Professionals will also take all the hard work and hassle of painting a room off your shoulders, making the entire process much easier and less stressful.

Use all of the room

One of the biggest differences between experts and amateurs in the interior design world is that the former knows how to utilize the entire space of a room properly. What that means is not just lining up all the furniture around the edges of a space, but actually coming into the space and creating a pleasing arrangement there. Therefore whatever you do be sure that you don’t end up with a big space in the center of your room and space your furniture properly.

You can decorate a rental

Lastly, a big secret in their interior design world is that just because you have a rental, doesn’t mean you can’t design and decorate the interior to make it a cozier, more practical space. Of course, you may have to stay away from putting up shelves and pictures with nails, but you can often have the wall painted, install your plant collection, and add your own touches such as curtains, rugs and objet d’art.
